East Cooper CCA 2011 Conservation Banquet

With some beautiful spring weather in effect, the annual gathering of sporting anglers took place at Alhambra Hall on May 5th, with little Cinco De Mayo fanfare involved. Arriba! A well-organized East Cooper chapter put on a great event with good food, silent and live auctions and a humdinger of a view off the back porch where most everyone gathered to enjoy their cocktails. Some conservation topics included offshore fishing trips and speckled trout mortality, as the crowd was full of advocates for our natural resources like Rep. Chip Limehouse, SCDNR board chair Carolina Rhodes, and Gov. Cup Director Wallace Jenkins.

Palmetto Moon, LLC and Guy Harvey team with CCA SC on funding habitat program

Columbia, S.C. – Charleston based Palmetto Moon, LLC, American Fishing Tackle Company (AFTCO) and world-renowned fishing icon Guy Harvey have teamed with CCA SC on a South Carolina themed Guy Harvey t-shirt available exclusively at the seven Palmetto Moon locations across the state. Beginning May 1st, a significant portion of the sale of each specially designed t-shirt will go to CCA SC’s Topwater Action Campaign (TWA), dedicated to marine habitat improvement in South Carolina.

“Palmetto Moon is pleased to be involved with the largest grassroots marine conservation organization in the state. CCA’s work for the last 25 years continues to positively impact our quality of life in South Carolina,” said Whitney Holzer of Palmetto Moon. “This t-shirt program is our way of participating in those efforts and we are honored to do so.”

Created in 2008, the Topwater Action Campaign was modeled on the adopt-a-highway program as a way to restore coastal creeks. Since then, TWA has grown tremendously in the scope and scale of its habitat projects. Under the slogan, “Habitat today means fish for tomorrow,” this building conservation program is now a force for improving South Carolina’s marine resources and raising awareness. Water quality, oyster shell recycling, inshore and offshore reef enhancement, as well as education are all aspects of the TWA today.

“Guy Harvey is a passionate advocate for the world’s marine resources,” said Steve Stock, president Guy Harvey Inc. “We believe the funds generated through the sale of Guy Harvey’s custom design PM t-shirt will be significant for the Topwater Action Campaign and we support both Palmetto Moon and CCA SC in their conservation efforts.”

“We are very appreciative and honored that these three successful and recognizable companies recognize CCA SC’s habitat program as worthy of their time and involvement,” said Gary Keisler, CCA SC Topwater Action Campaign Coordinator. “With partners like these, we can enhance and restore areas today that will mean more habitat, more fish, and better angling opportunities for the future.”
